BIOFUEL VS. TRADITIONAL FOSSIL FUELS: WHAT HOMEOWNERS NEED TO KNOW
Does your home's heating system require oil to generate heat? If so, you've likely heard about an alternative called “biofuel” that's quickly becoming the go-to replacement for traditional heating system oil made from fossil fuels. But what is biofuel, and what are the advantages of switching to it? Unsurprisingly, this transition is not only environmentally friendly but also offers numerous benefits to homeowners.
Let's explore more below.
What Is Biofuel and B20 Biofuel?
Biofuel is a type of fuel derived from renewable biological resources such as plants and waste materials. In contrast, traditional fossil fuels come from finite sources (resources that can eventually be depleted) like oil, coal, and natural gas. While there are various types of biofuel available, one particularly popular option is B20 Biofuel.
B20 biofuel is composed of 80% regular heating oil and 20% biodiesel derived from domestically grown soybeans. The use of B20 biofuel reduces emissions and decreases the United States' dependence on foreign oil.
Here are a few more benefits of switching to biofuel:
No modifications are necessary to your burner or tank; there's no need to purchase new equipment.
Biofuel delivers the same comforting warmth as “regular oil.”
Research has shown that B20 biofuel performs as well as or better than conventional heating oil.
It naturally lubricates your heating system.
B20 biofuel meets the standards set by ASTM International, an organization that sets industry standards for fuels and lubricants.
As an added benefit for Robison customers, no alterations are needed for your budget plan, payment plan, service contract, or warranties.
Financial Benefits of Biofuel
We know what you're thinking: this all sounds great, but show me the money!
New York State offers a direct tax credit of one cent per gallon for every percent bio blend you use to heat your home. With the exclusive B20 biofuel blend (20% biofuel), this means a 20-cent per gallon direct tax credit for every gallon used throughout the year. For example, if you use 1,000 gallons per year to heat your home, you will receive a $200 NYS tax credit.
Furthermore, the recently enacted federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) provides a $600 federal tax credit for B20-compatible furnaces and boilers, encouraging the efficiency of heating oil equipment and promoting the use of biodiesel blends.
How Robison Customers Can Apply for a Tax Credit
Every January, Robison will receive an email containing a statement of your annual usage of B20 Biofuel and a link to Form IT-241. Simply fill out Form IT-241 (corporate taxpayers should file Form CT-241) with the consumption data when you file your state taxes.
Strides Towards a Greener, Energy-Independent Future
By embracing biofuel, we are taking an exciting leap toward a more sustainable future. Biofuel burns cleaner than regular heating oil and is a renewable source of energy. It also reduces the United States’ dependence on foreign oil, as biofuel is made with domestically grown soybeans. What's more, you can enjoy the same, satisfying heat you're used to and benefit from enhanced system lubrication.
